Each month, I look back in reflection on my favorite moments, captures or days. This, in a nutshell, is what I love about photography; documenting the little things. It also provides a glimpse into the past to provoke emotions, share memories and tell stories.
1.Easter Family Fun
Having young children has created a variety of traditions. While we as children have followed some traditions that our parents created for us, we as parents have also began a few of our own. Easter is one with a mix of old and new which in a way is becoming it’s own fusion of generational norms. One of the old aspects of the holiday is the egg hunt. DUH. It’s so fun as parents to see the excitement on their faces as they dash around the yard trying to collect as many as their tiny hands will allow. Then a quick pause for a picture before heading in to unveil the goodies hidden within each plastic circle. This is one tradition that I will look forward to for many years to come!
2. We Got Chickens!
Yes, that’s right. We are the proud owners of 4 backyard hens. It’s something we have wanted to do for a long time but many factors stood in our way. Then a few weeks ago we revisited the idea and felt it was time. So far the experience has been more rewarding than I had imagined and I can’t wait to see what the next few years with these girls will bring. Follow along on my Facebook or Instagram to watch them grow!
3. A Happy (Floral) Accident
I did a maternity session at the St. Louis Botanical Gardens recently. We chose this location for a few reasons but one of which was because it was still too darn cold to shoot outside. If you have ever been to the gardens, then you know they have a couple of beautiful indoor locations to choose from. This couple had been married at the gardens 2 years prior so after shooting in the Linnean House, we decided to venture to the pavilion where they had exchanged vows. On the way there we ran into these amazing blooming magnolia trees. Although this location wasn’t planned, I had mama-to-be pause for a few shots under them because I was just couldn’t pass up their beauty.
Warm spring day, matching shirts and a pair of goofballs. Nuff said.
5. Feast, Moms + Memories
April brought a few more opportunities to work with Feast Magazine and one of them was shooting at a new event venue in the Shaw area of St. Louis called Wild Carrot. I fell so in love with this wall and setup that I knew I had to shoot a few of my Mommy + Me sessions there. One of the most memorable sessions from that day was with a mom, her 2 daughters and her mother. The experience was incredible, the location was beautiful and the memories will last a lifetime.
I’m a family photographer in the St. Louis area. I blog about my photography sessions, raising young children and what moms should know when they’re looking to hire a family photographer. If that’s interesting to you, sign up below to get email updates straight to your inbox. Thanks for reading!
