Each month, I look back in reflection on my favorite moments, captures or days. This, in a nutshell, is what I love about photography; documenting the little things. It also provides a glimpse into the past to provoke emotions, share memories and tell stories.
As we have just turned the corner into a new year, I wanted to take some time to look back at my favorite moments of each month in 2017.
January- Baseball Practice
My husband is a baseball fan. He grew up going to games at Wrigley Field, played baseball through college and understands the sport better than most people I’ve spoken to. So, while out shopping for studio goodies, he grabbed a bat and ball set without thought and it became such a huge hit with the littles. On one hand, were shocked when we realized that they hadn’t held a bat until this moment but on the other hand we were thrilled that we had waited because they loved the new-ness of the sport!
February- Opening a Studio
In February we opened a new studio in the Chesterfield Valley. This was a huge step for my business and more or less a leap of faith for our family. The process of opening a store front, remodeling, decorating, marketing, etc was an amazing learning opportunity that I will be forever grateful for. However, at the end of the year lease, we decided not to renew and the studio has since been moved home. It was the best choice for our growing family. I also learned a lot about my style of photography and what direction to take my business next. In-home lifestyle has stolen my heart and I plan to pursue this type of session for the foreseeable future.
March- Star Wars Max
I love when my clients come up with fun ideas for their sessions. They are a family of Star Wars fans through and through so we went with it! Mom wanted to create some imagery that they could add as decor to his Star Wars themed big boy room and I feel like we hit the nail right on the head! We had so much fun cuddling with Darth, doing father and son light saber wars, and playing dress up.
April- Dog Wash
Summer felt like I came a bit early last year and we made the most of it by spending the warm Spring days by the kiddie pool playing and putting my helpers to work.
May- We’re Expecting!
May brought the exciting news that our family of 4 would be a family of 5 by the end of the year! We were all so overjoyed with this news. I cannot believe how fast the time has gone and that as I type this, I am holding the bundle we so looked forward to just a short time ago.
June- Pool Time
When my mom moved to the area at the beginning of the summer, we wasted no time making good use of their pool. The babes were a bit timid at first but in no time at all, they have turned from standing in the shallow end to swimming like little fishes. By the end of the summer they were old pros and we look forward to creating new memories there this summer with our newest family member.
July- Ice Cream
Hot summer days, overflowing ice cream cones and 2 sweet babes allowed to get as messy as they’d like. Enough said.
August- Foster Love
Foster care is something that recently have learned so much about. The wonderful people who open their hearts and homes to the children who need it so badly is something that puts me in awe. Though I cannot share most of the information about these darling kids with you due to privacy, I will say that the resilience of these children is quite amazing. I started to offer discounted sessions to these families and it gave me a chance to meet some incredibly inspiring people.
September- First of Fall Sessions
This gorgeous, fun-loving mama of 2 contacted me very far in advance in order to ensure a perfect date for their fall family photography and I am glad she did. We were still waiting for cooler weather to come around (and stay) but fall was starting to appear with beautiful colors popping up more and more everyday. And they did not disappoint for this session.
(Almost) Every Wizard of Oz character showed up. Need I say more?
November- Our Family
After 2 long years, I decided it was time to redo our family photos. This year was extra special because of the special package I was carrying around. I reached out to a good friend whom has photographed us for many years. I am so grateful that we took the time to document this special time in our lives.
December- Welcome Baby
1 day before the end of the year, our sweet baby boy made his appearance earth-side. Surrounded by family and friends, we welcomed the 1st boy into our family. My heart feels like it might explode with love just thinking about this special day. His birth was nothing short of incredible and I will treasure the memories for the rest of my life.
